Dazed and Confused is one big party movie with kids cruising around having a good time. However, for a small group of freshman the movie is spent trying to evade the upperclassman to avoid a beating as part of the highschool hazing ritual. In one scene two junior high boys look for their friend Hirschfelder at their last school dance. As they walk through the gym they see couples slow dancing in tight embraces. The fact that Love Hurts plays in the background is a reminder that they are alone and do not have someone to dance with. When they find Hirschfelder, he is with a girl and her face reveals the rejection and heartbreak when he walks away from her to go off with his friends.
